US Preclearance

The United States Preclearance facility in Dublin Airport is a purpose built facility that allows US bound passengers to undertake all immigration, customs and agriculture inspections at Dublin prior to departure. US Preclearance facilities are unique to Ireland within Europe.

Having cleared immigration and customs at Dublin, passengers arriving in the US are treated as domestic arrivals. There are a number of benefits associated with using US Preclearance at Dublin:

  • Allows US bound passengers to clear immigration and customs at Dublin before departure which reduce the arrival processing time in the US.
  • Airlines can offer passengers easily accessible onward connections as passengers making connections have their baggage checked through to their final destination. This reduces the minimum connection time by effectively offering a domestic-to-domestic connection.
  • Airlines flying to the US will now be able to fly into less congested and less expensive domestic terminals on arrival at US gateway airports.
